Best Practices for Virtual Charter School Programs and Alternative Charter School Programs

A state served by SECC requested research on best practices for successful alternative charter school programs and virtual charter school programs. Topics of interest include dropout prevention programs and dropout recovery programs as well as mission/charter, accountability, course management, grade levels, student performance, diverse populations, postsecondary success, student/parent perspectives, student/parent satisfaction, funding, governance,  technology, and charter school evaluation. This research will inform the state’s evaluation process for virtual schools and potential recommendations to policymakers. 

Report Summary
A state served by the Southeast Comprehensive Center requested information regarding research on best practices related to successful alternative charter school programs and virtual charter school programs. The areas of interest included students and curriculum, student performance and accountability, management of students and courses, special populations, dropout prevention, technology, student/parent perspectives, and postsecondary success. Other areas of interest concerned school management, such as governance, funding, and charter school evaluation.
