Initially, the Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC) created its mathematics and English language arts (ELA) videos in collaboration with the state departments of education in its region to provide training support for implementation of the Common Core State Standards. Although most states have replaced Common Core with college- and career-readiness standards, the concepts and processes in these subjects remain constant despite how they are articulated in content standards.
Each math and ELA video focuses on one or more specific standard and includes examples/illustrations geared to enhancing understanding. The intent is to clarify the meaning of the individual standard rather than to be a guide on how to teach each standard. Viewers can read the standard that the video addresses and subsequently decide if a particular video could assist in improving understanding of that topic. They also can download the videos and utilize them to fit their particular context.
