Danny Martinez is a senior technical assistance consultant at AIR. He has over 20 years of experience in expanded learning, technology integration, and the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) disciplines to support students’ academic engagement and achievement in both school and out-of-school learning environments. Martinez’s expertise specifically focuses on helping teachers and out-of-school-time providers best use technology and project-based learning to support students’ learning in the content areas. He is an experienced and skilled group facilitator with a background in experiential education techniques. He currently supports the Illinois Quality Afterschool initiative, providing technical assistance and professional development to Illinois’ 21st Century Community Learning Centers program, and has lead a co-interpretation team as part of the New York City School Reform Assessment.
Martinez works with the Southeast and Texas Comprehensive Centers and was trained through the Partnership for 21st Century Skills Affiliates Program. Martinez also leads development of multimedia resources for the Regional Educational Laboratory Southwest and regional comprehensive centers including Web-based learning resources, online interactive databases, video production, and podcasts.
Previously, he was a teacher at Houston’s Briarwood School for children with learning differences. He also has directed numerous expanded learning programs for at-risk children, including Houston Adventure Play, EXPLORE, and Austin’s Sunshine Camps and Sunshine Challenge.
