Georgia College and Career Pathways

The Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC) is continuing to assist the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) through technical expertise and support to the Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) staff in the implementation of GaDOE’s career pathways. Also, SECC and the College & Career Readiness & Success (CCRS) Center will continue to support the implementation of employability skills and quality work-based learning opportunities for all students.

Technical Assistance Approach

The SECC is assisting GaDOE with the collection and analysis of data files from stakeholder reviews. The center will work with the CCRS Center and CTAE staff to convene local education agency (LEA) leaders and stakeholders to identify successful strategies in supporting implementation of Georgia’s Employability Skills Task Force recommendations. The strategies will be shared with educators across the state to guide providing opportunities for all Georgia students to develop the necessary academic, technical, and employability skills for success in postsecondary education and the workplace.

The Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC) is posting the survey for dual language immersion for stakeholder review and feedback. Additionally, nine surveys in Advanced Automotive Technology were posted for stakeholder review. SECC contacted individuals for additional information needed to complete consistent information across sample employability skills project descriptions. Content was sent to SECC staff for layout in final form consistent with “Georgia Employability Skills Task Force Recommendations,” completed previously in collaboration with College and Career Readiness and Success Center. The SECC evaluator contacted the Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) manager to determine what support is needed for development of a strategic plan for statewide implementation of the Georgia Employability Skills Task Force Recommendations. Ideas for a survey will be shared with the evaluator for review and feedback to the CTAE team responsible for developing the plan.

In January 2019, SECC will finalize layout of employability skills model descriptions with CTAE leader and staff approval for use in a state CTAE directors’ meeting. The SECC senior evaluator and SECC web development specialist will send data files on dual language immersion and updates from automotive technology to staff of curriculum and instruction for analysis and presentation to the Georgia Board of Education.

The Southeast Comprehensive (SECC) team completed revisions of nine previously identified examples for final formatting. SECC provided responses from CTAE teachers to the CTAE director for analysis and use in developing a strategic plan to increase opportunities for students to master employability skills across the state. Additionally, SECC provided updated data for high school and middle school courses currently under review. The staff began preparation of Standards of Excellence for High School Science surveys to be posted in May. In May, SECC will serve as a thought partner to CTAE staff in analyzing data to inform development of a strategic plan to increase access of students to development of employability skills in Georgia. Also, SECC will begin posting of Standards of Excellence for High School Science surveys.

The team also provided updated data for high school and middle school courses currently under review as well as began preparation of Standards of Excellence for High School Science surveys for posting in April. SECC staff will post surveys for standards and additional updates and summary data for high school and middle school courses.

Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC) staff have finalized layout of employability skills model descriptions provided to Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) leadership at the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) for use at the state CTAE directors meeting. The SECC senior evaluator provided links for administrator surveys to the CTAE manager for distribution to state CTAE administrators and teachers. SECC staff will post surveys on revised courses for 12 CTAE middle grades courses and 1 high school course.

In March, SECC staff will solicit additional program descriptions that demonstrate employability recommendations from programs across the state. SECC staff will provide responses from administrators and teachers to the CTAE director for analysis and use in developing a strategic plan to increase opportunities for students to master employability skills across the state.

Despite late submission of content for the second example, SECC staff were able to incorporate content and produce a second example of employability skills delivery for use in the state conference presentation by GaDOE staff.

The nine surveys in Advanced Automotive Technology were closed and files of stakeholder review provided to Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) staff. The CTAE manager requested that the Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC) evaluator facilitate the work of the CTAE staff developing a statewide strategic plan for implementing Georgia Employability Skills Task Force Recommendations. Initial staff questions were shared with the evaluator for review and feedback. It was agreed that there would be two types of administrator surveys and that they would be ready for distribution by the CTAE Winter Conference in early February.

During February, SECC will finalize the layout of the employability skills model descriptions provided to CTAE leader for use at state CTAE directors meeting. The SECC senior evaluator will provide links for administrator surveys to the CTAE manager for distribution to state CTAE administrators.

The director of Curriculum and Instruction at the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) requested posting surveys on dual language immersion in December. The Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC) evaluator is assisting in developing and posting the surveys. SECC staff held a planning meeting with the College, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) director and staff to determine goals and strategies to use in disseminating employability skills strategies in Georgia.

Staff from the Southeast Comprehensive Center (SECC) were introduced to the new director, Curriculum and Instruction, at the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE), who will forward future requests for posting curriculum surveys to the SECC Georgia state liaison. SECC and GaDOE staff set the first planning meeting to determine strategies for expanding employability skills access across Georgia. SECC sent the employability skills descriptions to the College, Technical, and Agricultural Education (CTAE) director and staff to review prior to final layout.

In November, SECC will hold a planning meeting with the CTAE director and staff to determine goals and strategies to use in disseminating employability skills strategies in Georgia.
